Carlos Carvalhal has undoubtedly done a fantastic job since coming into management at the Liberty Stadium, but the task he was faced with was incredibly difficult and he still has a lot of work to do if he wants to make a success of this season.
The former Sheffield Wednesday boss took over just after Christmas, having only just been sacked from his position at Hillsborough. They managed a 2-1 win over Watford in that first game, and since then he has led them to six wins, five draws, and just two defeats.
The enormity of his job is evident though. Their ten match unbeaten streak came to an end at the weekend as they were hammered at Brighton, and despite their excellent form, this plunged them back into the Premier League relegation zone. Getting back on track straight away is paramount if they are to avoid slipping into further danger, and given Carvalhal’s history with the opposition, he will want to prove a point.
Sheffield Wednesday didn’t have a good weekend either as they lost 4-2 at home to Aston Villa, following on from a midweek defeat at Millwall to make it one win, three draws, and three defeats from their last seven outings.
Just like their opponents, this leaves them in a difficult position. They are down in 17th position in the Championship and just seven points above the drop zone. Remaining in the second flight will be their main priority, but a good run in the FA Cup is always a morale booster.
Unfortunately for The Owls, they are coming up against a Swansea side who have won each of their last five home games and only conceded three goals. This includes shock wins over Liverpool and Arsenal as well, and given that Wednesday have failed to score in five of their last six away games, they could struggle here.
On the balance of things we thing a Swansea win looks fantastic value for money here, so that’s what we’re going for alongside a 1-0 correct score predictions.
